Gynecomastia – Male Breast Surgery
Male breast surgery may be needed to reduce or remove enlarged male breasts as a result of the accumulation of excess fat tissue in the area. The condition is known as Gynecomastia in which overdeveloped breasts occur in men at about any age. It can happen due to the excess local fat, excess gland and tissue development, or due to excess breast skin. Gynecomastia surgery can help in reducing the breast tissue and restructuring the chest for a manly appearance. Breast gland tissue, excess skin, and fat are removed, and contouring is done to get a masculine feel.
The surgery itself is a small one and can be completed within one or two hours. However, general anesthesia is given to patients opting for the same. In most men, liposuction of the chest by making small incisions can be enough to produce the desired results. If breast tissue needs removal, a small semicircular incision is made in the areola with the smallest scar. Further, if excess skin also needs to be removed, it can be done by making additional incisions which can be closed after the surgery.
Gynecomastia surgery is a very small operation and therefore, any patient can recover from it within a week or two. During the period, bruising and considerable swelling with pain can be expected to happen. These can be controlled suitably with the medication from the surgeon and hence it is important that a good surgeon is chosen for the purpose. With an experienced surgeon’s consultation and help, Gynecomastia surgery can be very easy to handle and recovery can also be smooth.
