Basal Cell Carcinoma
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common type of skin cancer, primarily affecting the basal cells, which are found in the deepest layer of the skin's epidermis. BCC typically occurs due to prolonged sun exposure and UV radiation, making it more prevalent in areas of the body that receive the most sunlight, such as the face and neck.
This slow-growing cancer often appears as a painless, pearly bump, or a red, scaly patch on the skin. It seldom metastasizes or spreads to other parts of the body but can be locally invasive, causing tissue destruction if left untreated.
Early diagnosis and treatment are essential. Various approaches, including surgical excision, cryotherapy, laser therapy, and topical medications, can effectively treat BCC. As it rarely spreads, the prognosis is generally favorable when detected and treated promptly.
