WHAT IS NOSE THREAD LIFT?

The nose can also be augmented non-surgically using polydioxanone (PDO) threads that are 100% bio-compatible and absorbable by our bodies. Also known as a ‘lunchtime nose job’, PDO Nose Thread Lift is a treatment that can be completed in under an hour. Because of the minimal downtime, patients can resume their daily activities thereafter.

Given the significant potential pitfalls of nose fillers, nose thread lifts are becoming extremely popular. Where nose threads are inserted just above the nasal bone, allowing the threads to function as an implant.it minimizes the trauma of insertion via its no-knife, blunt cannula or sharp needle technique. If inserted correctly, threads do not migrate and the effect is a slender, seamless lift, mimicking bone. The material does not absorb water unlike fillers so you need not to wait for the final result. This procedure doesn’t require time to set, what you see on the table is what you get. There is little risk of having to correct minor imperfections and even lesser risks of overcorrection. Most importantly, this technique has virtually no risk of vascular complications and blindness.

Technique

1. After numbing and application of local anaesthetic
2. the doctor places fine threads along the nasal bridge for the height
3. a thread can also be inserted in the septum to give projection to the nose.
4. The threads are placed under the skin to elevate the nose bridge and tip while stimulating collagen formation to provide sustainable lift for the nose.
5. The number of threads required varies according to individuals’ need. An initial consult with the doctor is required to determine the current shape of the nose and the desired outcome before he can decide the number of threads required.

2. Lasts for up to 1 to 2 years (slightly longer than nose fillers)

Disadvantages / Limitations:

1. Temporary discomfort and bruising (1-2 days)
2. Risk of infection
3. Results are not permanent (also an advantage)
4. Might not adequately correct severely bulbous nose tips and droopy nose tips due to nose tip ptosis
5. Cannot be used for reduction rhinoplasty
6. Cannot correct hump on dorsum successfully
7. Threads once put cannot be pulled out nonsurgically. You need to wait for all threads to absorb/ remove them surgically
8. It adds to fibrosis of the nasal soft tissue and so making open rhinoplasty difficult if you want to go for it
9. It gives subtle changes only. Cannot be a dramatic result as of surgical result.
10. This treatment is highly technique dependent
11. Deviations, kinks and dimpling can happen in less experienced hands

Some clinics advertise nose thread lifts as better than the actual rhinoplasty. I feel it as a dangerous trend. Some doctors who don’t perform surgical rhinoplasty may show advantages of thread lift nose and nonsurgical rhinoplasty more but be cautious there. Nonsurgical means can give only subtle changes and that too temporary. If you are willing for permanent result with   extra improvement please consider surgical rhinoplasty. Though being safe and nonsurgical they also have complications in non-experienced hands.

 it is important to discuss your options with a doctor you can trust, or go to a clinic which can offer any of the temporary or permanent rhinoplasty. Going to the clinic offering both surgical and nonsurgical nose job theoretically eliminates bias towards limited treatments offered. while most aesthetic clinics offer nose fillers, some may offer both fillers and nose thread lifts,  but only a very few offer rhinoplasties along with nose fillers and thread lifts under one roof.
